Locomocean

I started the role of 3D designer at Locomocean in May 2023.

  • 3D designer responsible for design, direction and execution of biyearly new product range and licensing collaborations.
  • As the sole 3D artist I oversaw the bespoke project department, working with agencies and customers to create custom products.
    • Achievement: Largest single order in company history totalling two thirds of average yearly sales.
  • Utilizing UE5, Midjourney and Blender to create realistic product lifestyle imagery from CAD models. Traditionally the company only would have one or two initial sample images to sell the product.
  • Web based AR implementation of product range allowing customers to preview homeware products before purchasing.
  • Running and creating content for social media & marketing platforms, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Mailchimp. Setting up Google Ads to help push B2C sales and increase web-based revenue.

NEW COLLECTION

Locomocean introduces a new collection of products twice a year, Spring / Summer and Autumn / Winter; Here is an view into the pre-sampling mockup created, compared to the initial sample created by the manufacturers.

MOST SUCCESSFUL

The WOW neon was part of a comic book style collection I designed based on the success of a previous neon entitled "BANG!", I created the four designs below, two of which went to sampling. The 'WOW!' neon instantly became the companies best selling product at three tradeshows; Autumn Fair (Birmingham), Shoppe Object (New York), Maison&Object (Paris).

Here you can see the initial concepts vs the refined sampled version.

AUGMENTED REALITY

A large number of items in the Locomocean catalogue are large form canvas paintings with embedded LED, I realized that most of the paintings only had the original sample photos from when they were created.
This directly impacts sales on the online store as customers are unable to visualize what the painting might look in their own spaces. Utilizing Shopify's recent implementation of Model Viewer I created a set of optimized AR friendly models for the best selling paintings to allow customers to load the model, and see how it would fit in their space.

The models are accurately sized to ensure customers know exactly the size of a painting and find an area it will fit in their homes.
TRADESHOW DESIGN

These are the tradeshow stand designs that I worked on during my time at Locomocean. Typically the company opts for a very simple plain shell booth to optimize as much wall space as possible as each new collection can include 12 or more paintings.
These were created in Solidworks and provided to the stand builders. The main point of these mockups were to dictate which products would fit in each area of the both, and how best to optimize the positioning of each range.

I was also in attendance of this show and assisted with sales.

VIRTUAL PHOTOGRAPHY

In addition to the augmented reality models, I created some high fidelity models for usage in realistic product imagery to further bolster the online presence of each product.
I experimented with a range of techniques;

  • Utilizing MidJourney to generate interior scenes and then project and composite in Blender.
  • Importing high poly models into Unreal Engine 5, faking the emissive lighting with point lights and taking a high resolution capture.
  • Fully using Blender Cycles to render a scene and an accurate model of the product.
