Chopard is a luxury jewelry brand founded in 1860, a brand agency approached us to see if we were capable in creating a unique luxury glass neon lamp for their client (Chopard) to provide as a gift for a range of their top customers. I was core designer on this bespoke glass neon project.
A selection of drawings were sent by the agency to indicate the first direction of design, ultimately, due to the restrictions of hand bent glass tubing we went through many different iterations to reinterpret their complex designs into a simplified, more possible shape our manufacturers can match.
I have included an overview of the different designs, the top being the initial stages, the bottom being the final choices.

This project resulted in the companies largest bespoke neon order of over 7,000 units which equaled to 70% of the previous years EU sales.
The main challenge when adapting a design into glass neon is understanding where the connections and bends in the manufacturing process will need to occur on the glass tubing. I communicate directly to the manufactures if any key points of connection needs to be ensured, for example, hiding certain caps to not compromise the design.
Stage Two
The agency had taken my first stage mockups to the client and they had selected the triple "HAPPY" design as their most popular choice, refining the selection of colors was the next stage.
Here I refined the model further to offer as accurate as a view as possible to match the manufacturers output. Branding Mockup
The agency client requested that we integrate gold printed branding onto our neon box as a special request, we hadn't tried this process before, I researched the type of printing which was most viable for our manufacturers to complete and sent them a technical drawing (.dxf) for them to accurate cut and place the logo onto the acrylic box.
Here you can see a comparison between my pre manufacturing mockup and one of the 3 samples that was created for the customer.
